For the Public Space Management department (BOR) of the Municipality of Utrecht, managing approximately 60,000 light points and 621 control cabinets on a daily basis is a major undertaking. Efficiency and a clear overview are essential. While the municipality was already successfully using Luminizer to manage faults in individual light points, the monitoring and control of the control cabinets still took place in a separate WinCC system.
This resulted in a fragmented management landscape, where identifying the exact cause of a fault could take unnecessary time.
Bridging Two Systems
Commissioned by the Municipality of Utrecht, Luminext brought these two worlds together. By developing a seamless software integration, all status information from the 621 control cabinets is now integrated into the Luminizer platform. This created one centralized and clear management system for the entire public lighting infrastructure.
Faster Diagnosis, Smarter Maintenance
Faults in a control cabinet, such as a power failure or an open door, now appear instantly on the map in Luminizer, linked to the corresponding light poles. Operators can see at a glance whether the issue concerns an individual light point or whether the root cause lies within the control cabinet.
This results in:
- Faster and more accurate fault diagnoses;
- More effective contractor deployment;
- Fewer unnecessary trips and lower operational costs.
Full Control Over the Public Lighting Infrastructure
Thanks to this smart integration, the Municipality of Utrecht now has full control over its entire public lighting infrastructure. By proactively monitoring faults and applying targeted fault resolution, management becomes simpler, more efficient, and future-proof.
With this use case, Luminext demonstrates how software integration plays a key role in smart, data-driven public lighting management.
